10th Street Jazz Journey
Saturday, May 16 | 1pm-10pm @ Re:Public, Mayfair + more
Celebrate the rich history of jazz on Indy’s Near East Side with live performances at Re:Public and Mayfair Taproom. Attendees can explore the neighborhood through guided walking tours with Walk & Talk Indy, and enjoy shopping, food, drinks, and kid-friendly fun at Montgomery Market in the green space at 10th & Hamilton. Jazz has deep roots on Indianapolis’s Near East Side, shaped by the historic African American cultural corridor along Indiana Avenue. From the 1930s through the 1960s, this area was a nationally recognized hub, home to vibrant clubs that hosted both local talent and touring legends, including Wes Montgomery. Nearby corridors like 10th Street played a vital supporting role, serving as neighborhood gathering spaces where music, social clubs, and informal venues kept jazz woven into everyday life. As redevelopment reshaped Indiana Avenue in the mid-20th century, the legacy of jazz lived on along streets like 10th, sustained by local musicians and residents in more grassroots, community-centered ways. Jazz Journey brings the community together to honor and celebrate this enduring legacy.
Live jazz performances will take place throughout the day at Re:Public & Mayfair Taproom. All performances are free to attend. All ages welcome!
